Andersonville Roller Skating Party Taking Over Side Street On Friday

The Rainbow Skate on Catalpa event will include a free skate on the street, plus music and games for the family.

ANDERSONVILLE — A pop-up roller skating rink is coming to an Andersonville side street Friday.

The Rainbow Skate on Catalpa event is 6:30-10 p.m. Friday on Catalpa Avenue between Clark Street and Ashland Avenue. It is free and open to the public.

The event will close the street to traffic and allow roller skating and roller blading. There will also be games and live DJs sponsored by local record company Quiet Pterodactyl.

Skating is free, but attendees will have to bring their own skates. The chamber suggests buying skates from Play It Again Sports at 3939 N. Ashland Ave. in Lakeview. It also has a location in Evanston.

The skating event is coming to a Catalpa Avenue, which could be permanently closed to traffic for a pedestrian-friendly public plaza.
